New River Fine Art is pleased to announce an important and unique exhibition of artwork spanning four generations of the world's most long-lived and productive family of artists. One hundred years after his death, the extraordinary legacy of Camille Pissarro lives on and is the foundation for an outstanding family tradition, which continues to be redefined and reshaped by successive generations of Pissarro artists. This exhibition explores the rich artistic tradition of the Pissarro family with a selection of works, in a variety of mediums, by Impressionist founder Camille Pissarro, his sons Lucien, Georges-Manzana, Ludovic-Rodo and Paulémile, grandson H.Claude, and, from the fourth generation, Lélia Pissarro.
Carrying on the tradition of the patriarch Camille, the four generations of the Pissarros have produced stunning landscapes and portraits. Though styles, techniques, and subject matter will differ with each artist, all of the artwork on exhibition displays a visual unity, and a direct link to Camille.
Jacob Camille Pissarro, the undoubted master of the French Impressionist Movement, was born in 1830 and lived for 73 years producing some of the finest works of the Movement but, equally importantly, his paintings contributed to a change in the traditional perception of art at the time.
He was known not only for his fine painting but also for his ability to teach others; Gauguin, Van Gogh and Cézanne being three of his more renowned pupils. Camille Pissarro also taught all of his sons to paint and they became recognized artists in their own right. The Pissarro sons carried on the tradition to successive generations and today there are four generations of Pissarro family artists with museum exhibitions to their credit.
New River Fine Art is proud to welcome Lélia Pissarro for the opening receptions of this exhibition of the four generations of Pissarro family artists. She will attend private opening receptions and give lectures on the art of the Pissarro family which are open to the public.
