Art Miami 2022

Civil Society is a curated exhibit of Purvis Young, Miss Bugs, and Jedd Novatt; three artists with vastly different backgrounds, aesthetics, and principles whose works respond to significant aspects of societal norms, unrests, and evolutions of the human condition through artistic expression.

Through the looking glass of past, present, and future aspects of cultural norms – its flaws, successes, progressions, and demises are all explored in a timeline constructed from Purvis Young’s allegories of civil unrest in the inner city, which is reinforced by Miss Bug’s visual critique of contemporary times with their generation of present-day artifacts revealing negative aspects that have been thrust upon mankind through modern advances, all the while reflecting on our collective nostalgia. Jedd Novatt’s examinations into chaos theory results in works that investigate gravity’s invisible pull on atmospheric, altitudinal, and linear explorations – a metaphor for a precarious balance of a society on the verge of collapse.
